Introduction to PRP

From mending broken bones to the sheer phenomenon of growing from a baby to an adult, your body can do some incredible things. After years of study, testing, and research, scientists have discovered that your blood has properties in it that when concentrated, can not only encourage the production of proteins and compounds in your body but can even lead to a faster recovery with many procedures. Aesthetica Med Spa offers PRP to our Austin patients as a great way to improve their skin’s appearance, as well as minimize recovery time. For more information on this incredible treatment, please continue reading the information we have provided below.

What is PRP?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a minimally invasive treatment that uses your blood platelets to combat the signs of aging by giving your face more youthful fullness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Often referred to as a “Vampire Facial” or “Vampire Facelift” due to the nature of the treatment, we withdraw a precise amount of blood (about two tablespoons) into a vial which is then placed in a centrifuge. This machine will spin the vial fast enough to separate the blood components from the platelet concentrate. After being separated, the platelets are utilized in various forms to achieve a more youthful appearance by stimulating collagen and elastin production, and the PRP adds an extra dose of healing properties

Whether you’re receiving a PRP Facial or a PRP Facelift, this treatment is a wonderful and safe way to treat the following skin conditions:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Large pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Surgical scars
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Wrinkles

A PRP Facial is a minimally invasive procedure using micro-needling in conjunction with the patient’s own PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). The PRP contains powerful growth factors and is applied topically while the micro-needling channels are open to penetrate the epidermal layer of the skin. This helps to promote collagen production, reduction in fine lines, and re-energize cells to appear healthier, and firmer and produces glowing skin. The PRP Facial is different than the PRP Facelift because it is applied topically and transdermally, leaving you with a dewy glow and firmer skin.

The PRP Facelift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves injecting PRP (platelet-rich plasma) into the tissue around the face, neck, hands, and other areas. This regenerative procedure utilizes plasma obtained via blood draw from the patient that is then placed in a centrifuge. The spinning of the sample allows us to obtain the platelet-rich plasma from the sample where the largest percentage of growth factors reside. Platelets contain numerous growth factors which help stimulate collagen growth and tissue regeneration and help increase blood circulation. With little to no downtime, the PRP Facelift will help reduce facial wrinkles, and scars, brighten your skin and create an amazing youthful glow.

During this appointment, you will be able to express what you are looking to achieve, have your questions about the treatment answered, and receive a personal examination. The aesthetician will also ask you questions regarding your medical history, so it’s very important to be open and honest with them to avoid unnecessary risks. What to Expect on the Day of PRP Facial & Facelift

Whether you’re coming in for a PRP Facelift or a Facial, they are both fairly simple procedures. First, we will numb you with local anesthesia approximately ½ hour before the procedure to make it more comfortable. Then we draw a small amount of your blood with a small needle. It is then spun in a centrifuge to separate your red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma and fibrin. We then take the plasma and use it for the procedure. Now, here’s where your experience will differ, depending on which treatment you are getting.

If you are getting the PRP facial, your skin is aerated by micro-needling, which creates microscopic holes or channels. The micro-needling allows the PRP to enter the skin, which is applied topically during the procedure. A final layer of the PRP will also be applied that should be left on the skin overnight.

If you are getting a PRP Facelift, the plasma will be injected into your skin tissue, helping it regenerate in about two weeks, and continue to regenerate for up to six months. In some instances, certain patients will notice their results sooner. The effects of the platelets can last up to two years depending on the patient.

These are both very safe procedures with virtually no side effects since you are utilizing materials from your own body.

PRP Facial & Facelift Recovery

Since the treatment uses PRP which has incredible regenerative effects, there is very little downtime, but you should consider taking one to three days to fully recover. Patients should expect to experience some swelling for approximately one to three days. In very rare cases, there may even be some bruising. There may be a blood-like appearance due to the microscopic holes that were made during the treatment, but this should subside in a day or two. You will also be able to gently wash your face a day after your procedure.

As the PRP does its job, you should begin to notice more youthful and healthy-looking skin. You can also expect tissue repair and growth in all areas where the platelets were placed. There may be some tightening and thickening of the skin along with wrinkle reduction, but in the end, your skin texture will appear smoother, with many patients reporting an increased vibrancy and glow to their skin.

How Much Does PRP Facial & Facelift Cost in Austin?

The cost of PRP treatment in Austin will vary depending on several factors, including which treatment you are getting and how much plasma is needed. When you come in for your free consultation and your skin is evaluated, your treatment plan will be created to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Our Patient Coordinator will be able to provide you with a price breakdown and give you a better idea of how much your treatment will cost.
