The use of BOTOX Cosmetic is now one of the world’s most commonly performed cosmetic dermatology procedures. *It is also one of the safest, most effective and easiest to administer cosmetic wrinkle treatments available. Botox helps people eliminate unwanted fine lines and wrinkles caused by age, repeated facial expressions, and overexposure to the sun.
Local Botox injections create a more relaxed, youthful appearance by:
- Softening forehead lines
- Elevating tired, droopy eyebrows
- Diminishing the appearance of crow’s feet and fine lines near the eyes
- Weakening the vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frequently referred to as 11′s)
The treatment temporarily reduces the muscle activity that creates fine lines and wrinkles, allowing you to still look surprised, frown or make other facial expressions, without the visible wrinkles and creases that were previously there. Most of us don’t realize that we have over 100 muscles in our face, by just shutting down a few of those muscles you dramatically decrease lines and wrinkles.
HOW DOES BOTOX COSMETIC WORK?
Botox is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes and forehead to smooth crow’s feet, frown, worry, and scowl lines. Made from a protein and neurotoxin, the injections block nerve impulses in the injected muscles, reducing the activity that was causing moderate to severe lines to form, while softening and smoothing these lines to give the face a more youthful, rejuvenated look. Botox may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and eye and neck muscle spasms. Learn more about other uses for Botox.

HOW IS BOTOX MEASURED?
Botox injections are measured in units. The total units required for treatment vary based on the area(s) being treated. Units are not injected individually – multiple units are administered through a few injection sites to effectively deliver the correct amount to the desired treatment area.
DO BOTOX INJECTIONS HURT?
Most individuals who review the treatments state that it does not hurt when administered by an experienced practitioner, like Dr. Sneed and his staff. The treatment will take about 15 minutes and there is no down-time. You can have this treatment done over lunch, and can return to work with little to no signs of the treatment being done. There may be a few small welts lasting about 15 minutes right after the injections have been administered. DON’T be afraid of the needles; they are the tiny ones used in the administration of insulin. You should barely feel the very shallow injection. The benefits of Botox far outweigh any apprehension you may have when considering this treatment.
CAN BOTOX HELP ME WITH SWEATY HANDS, FEET AND UNDERARMS?
Absolutely, there are actually several different alternative uses that potential patients seek out. At Aesthetica Med Spa, we have a large following of people that want to stop ruining clothing due to excessive sweating. Dr. Sneed is an expert in treating this condition, known as, hyperhydrosis. *Botox treatments for hyperhydrosis can last up to one year and is covered by some insurance plans.
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO REPEAT BOTOX TREATMENTS?
Most patients will have to repeat their procedure every 3 to 6 months in order to maintain the best benefits of the treatment. Also, as you continue to use Botox, you may be able to increase the amount of time between appointments. Two things happen to promote more long-term correction of wrinkles. First, you experience a little behavior modification (if you can’t make the damaging movements with your face, you forget that you can do that) and you actually lose a little muscle mass in those areas which are no longer being exercised on a daily basis (i.e., the lifting of the brows every 15 seconds).
