In Austin, facelift surgery is incredibly popular with those who want to reclaim the smooth, youthful skin and profile that they had when they were younger. However, there’s a new kid on the block that offers less expense and much faster recovery, and its quickly soaring in popularity. The Silhouette ThreadLift procedure is available now here at our Austin Med Spa, and many are wondering whether it’s a suitable alternative to a traditional facelift. Today, we’ll discuss the differences between the two procedures so you can get a better understanding of which is right for you.

Differences in procedure and recovery

Those planning a traditional facelift in Austin can expect a pretty invasive procedure, which will take two weeks to initially recover from and up to a year before residual bruising and swelling completely dissipates. The surgery, which is performed under general anesthetic, involves making an incision across the hairline and in front of the ear to allow the skin to be lifted up and back. Excess skin is removed before staples or sutures are used to close the wound, resulting in a very extreme smoothing of the skin. With a ThreadLift facelift only local anesthetic is required, which means a much faster recovery. The procedure involves threading very thin and flexible sutures, known as Countour Thread, beneath the skin in order to gently lift sagging tissues. The results of a Countour ThreadLift are far less extreme than a traditional facelift, but as a result the finished look is more natural. During recovery you may experience some swelling and bruising for around three weeks in total.

Which procedure is better?

It really depends on the level of skin sagging you are experiencing as to whether you should choose a facelift or ThreadLift. For those with very deep wrinkles and sagging tissue, a facelift may be the best way to get the youthful appearance you dream of. For those with only mild to moderate sagging, particularly around the jowls and cheeks, a ThreadLift may be enough to give the results you want with far less recovery time and expense. A single ThreadLift procedure will last between three to five years before the tissues begin to gradually sag again. A traditional facelift can last anywhere between two and 10 years, depending on the techniques and skill of the surgeon, so there is no guarantee that facelift surgery would give longer lasting results than a Contour ThreadLift. People who have had facelift surgery in the past may benefit from a ThreadLift in order to gently improve the look of the face without the trauma of more surgery.
