Kybella
Kybella is a non-surgical procedure to help reduce unwanted fat under your chin. It is an injectable product containing deoxycholic acid. Kybella is injected into the submental area to target and break down the fat cells. It has been approved by the FDA since 2015.
Deoxycholic acid is an acid naturally produced by our bile that helps to absorb fat in our bodies. Kybella uses a synthetic form of this acid to destroy the fat cells under the chin area so that fat won’t be stored anymore.
The Procedure
First and foremost, a skilled medical professional will carefully examine your submental area during a consultation in order to make sure that Kybella is the right procedure for you.
Once they have confirmed that the procedure will be able to help you achieve your aesthetic goals, they will lay out a customized treatment plan for you. This plan includes details like the number of injections you will require and the dosage, how many sessions you will need, and where exactly these injections will have to be administered.
Each Kybella session takes around 15 to 20 minutes, and in most cases, about 20 to 30 (not more than 50) injections are administered in the area beneath the chin. The deoxycholic acid then starts to spread, killing the fat cells in the area, thus making it impossible to store any more fat. The dead fat cells are metabolized by the body through a natural process over the following weeks.
Since each chin profile will be different, the number of sessions and the number of injections a person will require differs from patient to patient. This means that each treatment experience and the resulting outcome of the procedure will be different from one person to another.
After Treatment
Since Kybella is a non-surgical procedure, the recovery is fairly simple. It is important to note that a degree of swelling and bruising will be experienced after the treatment. However, these usually go away within two days. Usually, patients don’t experience pain severe enough to interfere with their daily schedule.
